Farm Solar Panels & Battery Storage — Devon & the South West

Cut your farm’s electricity costs and carbon with MCS-certified solar PV and battery systems from All Powered Up. We design, install and maintain rooftop, ground-mount and yard-scale systems for dairies, poultry units, grain stores, cold rooms and estates across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset & Dorset.

Accreditations: MCS (solar PV) • NAPIT (electrical)

Why farms choose All Powered Up

  • Lower daytime kWh cost — generate on-site power for parlours, refrigeration, ventilation and lighting.
  • Stabilise your bills — pair PV with batteries to shift solar into evenings and peak tariffs.
  • Ready for electrification — power EVs, fork-lifts and heat pumps from your own array.
  • Earn for exported energy via the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) when you have surplus.

Systems we deliver

Rooftop Solar PV

High-yield systems for slate, tile, fibre-cement and trapezoidal metal roofs. Non-penetrative and standing-seam options available.

Ground-mount Arrays

For yards/fields with good solar aspect; fixed-tilt or adjustable frames with stock-friendly fencing.

Battery Energy Storage

AC or DC-coupled batteries for peak-shaving and time-of-use optimisation; keeps critical loads running during outages (site-specific).

Solar-Aware EV Charging

Smart chargers that prioritise self-generated energy for farm and fleet vehicles.

Monitoring, Service & O&M

Always-on performance monitoring, scheduled inspections and fast response to maximise yield.

Our end-to-end process

  1. Feasibility — desktop yield model, consumption profiling and payback.
  2. Survey & design — structural checks, roof interface, cable routes and safety method statements.
  3. Grid & planning — we handle G99/G100 applications and planning where required. Connections+1
  4. Installation — in-house, NAPIT electricians; safe, tidy, minimal downtime.
  5. Commissioning & handover — MCS certificate, O&M manual, app setup and training.
  6. Aftercare — monitoring, maintenance and performance reviews.

Funding & procurement options

  • Capex purchase — maximise lifetime savings and available allowances.
  • Asset finance/lease — spread cost with predictable payments.
  • Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) — low/zero upfront; buy cheaper on-site power by kWh.

We’ll model ROI, cashflow and carbon impact for each route so you can pick with confidence.

Typical agricultural use-cases

  • Dairy — parlours, bulk tanks, plate coolers and yard lighting.
  • Poultry & pigs — ventilation, heating and controls.
  • Arable — grain drying/handling, irrigation pumps and workshops.
  • Horticulture — cold storage, packing sheds and glasshouse auxiliaries.

Even without subsidies, farm PV can offer strong payback thanks to lower kit costs and high daytime load profiles.

Planning & compliance, made simple

  • Many non-domestic rooftop systems qualify as permitted development (subject to limits/conditions); ground-mount may need consent — we’ll advise and manage.
  • We manage all DNO applications (G99) and export-limiting where the grid is constrained.
  • SEG export payments available from licensed suppliers once commissioned.

What you get at handover

  • MCS certificate, electrical test sheets and as-built documentation
  • App/portal access with live generation, battery SOC, export and savings
  • O&M pack with maintenance schedule and warranty details

Results you can expect

  • Bill reduction from on-site generation and battery shifting
  • Better EPC/ESG reporting and a credible path toward net-zero
  • Resilience for key loads with battery backup (site-specific design)

FAQs

Do farms get paid for surplus energy?

Yes. With SEG, suppliers pay for exported kWh once you sign up to a tariff.

Will I need planning permission?

Often not for rooftop agricultural installations (permitted development rules apply), but ground-mount and designated sites usually need consent. We’ll check and manage the process.

What about grid approvals?

We submit and manage your G99 connection and can fit export limiting if required by the DNO.

Can you add batteries later?

Yes—our systems are modular and battery-ready, so capacity can grow with your needs.

How quickly can you install?

Most farm rooftops: 2–5 days on site (weather and access dependent). Larger/ground-mount: project scheduled after approvals.
